Specialist anaesthetist for 25 years, originally from Adelaide and Director of Anaesthesia at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for 10 years. Currently a number of roles in Mercy Health in Melbourne: Head of Anaesthesia at Mercy Hospital for Women since 2006, Clinical Director Anaesthesia Perioperative and Pain Medicine, and Clinical Director Quality and Risk. Former Chair of the Obstetric Anaesthesia SIG and currently executive member of the Communication SIG. After completing studies with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston has undertaken a number of projects aimed at quality improvement through system redesign, including classification of clinical urgency for caesarean section and massive transfusion management. A current Cochrane Review author and reviewer and Editor for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Research interests are the use of ultrasound in obstetric anaesthesia, development of systems for delivery of critical care for high risk obstetrics and early warning systems.
